Contemporary Pilates (matwork)

Karina and Unique Balance offers mat based Contemporary Pilates, in Mandurah, Western Australia. Karina runs both community Pilates and small group/one-on-one sessions in her private studio.


Contemporary Pilates is suitable for general exercise as well as for therapy. Often Karina will prescribe Pilates and myofascial movement exercises to her clients for on-going self care.

Pilates and myofascial movement training is great for short term goals

such as pain-free movement & functional strength,

as well as long term goals, such as physical balance and movement adaptability.

Pilates and myofascial movement training doesn’t just focus on core strength, instead aims to improve and maintain postural ease and efficiency – allowing us to sit, stand or move with minimal effort in our day-to-day lives.

In Contemporary Pilates we are moving the body in all directions using all different kinds of body positions. We also tune into the body and sense subtlety, so some of the exercises are performed reasonably slow, allowing enough time to differentiate the movement, to relax through the outer muscles and to get to the deeper muscles and build up strength.

The magic is in the choreography and Karina will always keep her clients in mind during a class. Karina will educate with correct technique and show appropriate variations if necessary.

SLINGS MYOFASCIAL TRAINING®

Slings Myofascial Training® is a unique and inclusive movement concept that combines science, functional anatomy, myofascial training techniques and multifaceted exercise repertoire. The training aims are fascia focused and guide you through a spectrum of movement.

inside-out wellbeing through conscious movement

This is a holistic movement approach that offers us a way for our bodies to develop dynamic flow and core strength as well as improved tissue elasticity and adaptability.

The human body has a complex fascial system. Slings Myofascial Training® is the most in-depth movement concept which adds a new dimension to the Pilates movement practice.

Karina will expertly choreograph Pilates exercises to include Slings Myofascial Training® techniques to give you the best opportunity to explore your body’s movement spectrum. This is fresh, current and advanced research rolled into a dynamic movement technique !

You become more present and aware of every muscle and fascial connection in your body. This movement has profoundly given my body a new sense of ease of motion that never existed before. It has changed the way I think about my body and how I move in the world. It has also enlightened my spiritual and emotional connection of the physical body as well. I am really excited to be able to bring this to my community and share this incredible knowledge that fits so well into my Pilates and Remedial Massage knowledge base

Pilates

Small group classes of up to 6. All levels are catered for. Great for those with injuries or in rehabilitation, or you may feel more comfortable in a small class setting.


Smaller classes allow Karina to give more personalised instruction to help you get the most out of each session. It is recommended that a massage treatment session is booked prior to joining Studio Pilates so that Karina can tailor the Pilates exercises according to your individual requirements.
